The Blue Note

The Blue Note is more than just a microlot. It is a sonic journey from the Ammikulavi Estate in the blue mountains of Kodaikanal to Hill Groove’s small-batch roastery in the Himalayas before finding its final stage in Bangalore. Inspired by the deep indigo of the mountains at dusk and the expressive, soulful effect of a “blue note” in jazz, this coffee is a sensory composition — a tribute to the craftsmanship of the producer, the precision of the roaster, and the discerning palates of Nerlu’s patrons.

The resulting cup is a burst of flavors: rich, luscious black currant and dark fruits layered with milk chocolate and a smooth, wine-like body.

Only 125 packs were produced.

From the hills to the heart of the city

A special collaboration between Hill Groove Coffee Roasters and Nerlu Cafe — a coffee that bridges Dehradun and Bangalore through a shared love for quality and craft. Sourced from Ammikulavi Estate, this lot carries the quiet complexity of the Western Ghats — layered, expressive, and beautifully balanced. A celebration of Indian specialty coffee.

The pairing of The Blue Note with Bill Evans’ Sunday at the Village Vanguard is a curated sensory experience that aligns technical complexity with emotional depth. The way the trio blend and complement each other on this legendary 1961 record is the exact same way the sweetness, acidity, and mouthfeel of this coffee complement each other.
